“I used to be in all probability fairly na\u00efve. I\u2019d watched a number of American horror movies once I was writing the script, like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre the place it\u2019s set in these roasting areas – fully forgetting that we might be filming in Scotland and that heat temperatures weren’t going to occur.”<\/p>\n

That process also created continuity issues, as Sean tried to juggle cast members having changed their hairstyles between their original scenes and the added filming. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

With money having run out by the time filming was finally completed in about 2011, Sean then had to rely on favours for post-production and scoring the film. That meant those factors took even more years to complete.<\/p>\n

It was only around 2016 that The Bench was mostly complete.<\/p>\n

“By the time that was all completed, I had no power left in any respect, so it simply sat in a drawer,” says Sean, who now teaches animation and filmmaking, as well as working on scripts as a freelance writer.<\/p>\n

“It took loads out of a number of friendships and I used to be paying off cash to do with it for some time, so I wished nothing to do with it.”<\/p>\n

However, like any self-respecting slasher villain, the film rose up from the dead. <\/p>\n

An approach by Ryan Hendrick – the director of Scottish set festive romance Lost At Christmas – led to the film being dusted down.<\/p>\n

“He stated he thought it might do fairly properly for a small distribution firm he\u2019d arrange,” Sean says. “There have been a number of issues with continuity on account of actors having totally different hair between the primary capturing and the reshoots, however he\u2019s minimize round that cleverly, and I used to be actually impressed by the work he\u2019s achieved.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“I\u2019ve began to get concepts once more,” he laughs. <\/p>\n
