Red Sox’s Jarren Duran suspended after utilizing anti-gay slur throughout sport


Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran was suspended for 2 video games after he was caught on a sizzling mic utilizing an anti-gay slur towards a heckling fan at Fenway Park.

Duran’s suspension will start with Monday’s sport in opposition to the Texas Rangers.

ESPN first reported the self-discipline.

Duran made the comment as he stepped to the plate within the sixth inning of Sunday’s 10-2 loss in opposition to the Houston Astros. A fan shouted at him that he wanted a tennis racket. The participant yelled again, “Shut up,” adopted by the slur.

He apologized in a press release after the sport.

“During tonight’s game, I used a truly horrific word when responding to a fan,” Duran mentioned. “I feel awful knowing how many people I offended and disappointed. I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly to the entire LGBTQ community.

“Our younger followers are supposed to have the ability to look as much as me as a job mannequin, however tonight I fell far wanting that duty.”

He apologized in a press release after the sport.

“During tonight’s game, I used a truly horrific word when responding to a fan,” Duran mentioned. “I really feel terrible figuring out how many individuals I offended and disenchanted. I apologize to all the Red Sox group, however extra importantly to all the LGBTQ group. 

“Our young fans are supposed to be able to look up to me as a role model, but tonight I fell far short of that responsibility.”

Duran was an All-Star for the primary time this season. Entering Monday, he led the majors with 36 doubles and 13 triples. He was hitting .291 with 14 house runs.
