A speech by Liz Truss was interrupted when a banner exhibiting an image of a lettuce unfurled above her.
The former prime minister was on stage at a public occasion at Beccles Public Hall, Suffolk, when the banner – which additionally learn ‘I crashed the economic system’ – appeared.
A video posted on X confirmed the speech being stopped and Ms Truss strolling off stage.
The activism group Led By Donkeys claimed accountability for the stunt.
“Liz Truss is on a pro-Trump speaking tour. So we dropped a strategically-positioned remote-controlled lettuce banner,” the group posted on social media.
“She didn’t find it funny.”
Ms Truss was talking in Beccles on Tuesday night to advertise her new guide.
In the footage, she stops talking when her consideration is drawn to the banner behind her.
She is then heard to comment “that’s not funny”, whereas the host mentioned: “I have no idea where that has come from.”
As she left the stage, laughter may very well be heard from some members of the viewers, whereas others clapped.
‘Differing opinions on politics’
Before the occasion, a spokesperson for Beccles Public Hall had urged individuals to “remain civil”.
An advert posted on Facebook final week mentioned: “We recognise that people have differing opinions on politics.
